PURPOSE AND GOAL:
We all have our guiding principles and a code of ethics which determine how we live our lives.
In the field of Social Work practitioners take an oath to abide by a set of ethical principals. These principles or code of ethics are standards created to ensure professional conduct by social workers.
However, how effective can we adhere to a code of ethics if we have biases towards other cultures and or races?
Many times we are unaware of our biases. In this workshop we will specifically address racial bias. The workshop will provide presentations that show racial biases were and are created, how to recognize bias and the steps one must take to change belief systems and patterns of behavior.
It is important that we address this matter because racial bias can lead to discriminatory practices that will affect your ethical principles and ultimately affect the individuals you serve.
